4 slices of your favorite bread, brioche, French bread … (1/2 inch thick)
¾ cup Milk
5 tablespoons Butter (unsalted)
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Pinch of salt
Pinch of Nutmeg
Remove crust from the bread slices (if crust is too hard)
Whisk the egg. On medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and allow to cool slightly. Whisk in the sugar, salt and spices. Once the butter has cooled down slightly, slowly pour it into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
Slowly stir in the flour to the egg mixture to make a smooth thick paste, then pour the milk and vanilla. Whisk until it is smooth. Set aside.
In a large skillet, over medium heat, Heat the remaining butter. Dip each slice of bread in the batter and allow to soak for at least 30 seconds (be careful not to oversoak). Remove from the batter and allow the excess to drip off.
Place the battered slices in the skillet and brown on both sides. Remove from skillet. Serve warm, sprinkled with powdered sugar.
